In short
- This site is built towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and we believe it substantially meets that standard.
- An accessibility toolbar on every page lets you change text size, contrast and colours yourself.
- We haven't had an independent audit yet, so we say "substantially", not "fully".
- If any of it is hard to use, that's our fault and we want to hear about it.
Our commitment
We want every part of this site to be usable by everyone who needs it, including people who use a screen reader, a magnifier, keyboard navigation, voice control or switch access, and people who simply find most websites too small to read.
That isn't a box we tick. If you can't read a page or complete a form, you can't reach the support behind it, and for an aged care provider that's a failure of service, not a technical detail.
How this site measures up
This site is built towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA.
We assess it as partially conformant. That's the standard wording for "it meets the requirements as far as we can tell, but the assessment is our own." We've built to the standard and checked our work, but no independent auditor has verified it and no formal testing with assistive technology has been carried out. We'd rather tell you that than claim a compliance we haven't proven.
What we've done
In practice, building to that standard has meant:
- A larger base text size than most websites use, with generous line spacing, and a scale that never drops below 18px on a desktop screen
- Every text and background colour pair checked for contrast against the AA thresholds
- Large buttons and links that are easy to tap or click, with generous spacing between them
- Everything reachable by keyboard, with a clearly visible focus outline that is never removed
- A "skip to main content" link as the first item on every page
- Proper headings and landmarks, so a screen reader can navigate a page by structure instead of reading it end to end
- Form labels that stay visible while you type, with errors listed in a summary at the top of the form and linked to the field they belong to
- Descriptive alt text on images, and no important information carried by a picture alone
- Images sized in advance so the page doesn't jump under your finger as it loads
- No auto-playing video, no moving carousels, no flashing content, and nothing that depends on a steady hand or a time limit
- Animation switched off automatically if your device is set to reduce motion
The accessibility toolbar
Every page has an accessibility button in the corner of the screen. Open it and you can adjust the page to suit you:
- Bigger text and smaller text, in steps, up to about 1.6 times the normal size
- Contrast, with a high-contrast setting and an inverted setting for people who read light text on dark more comfortably
- Highlight links, which underlines and boxes every link so they stand out from the text around them
- Readable font, which swaps the page typeface for one with more distinct letterforms
- Greyscale, which removes colour entirely
- Reset all settings, to put everything back the way it was
Your choices are remembered in your own browser, on that device only. Nothing about them is sent to us, and clearing your browser data will clear them.
The toolbar was built in-house rather than bought in as a third-party overlay. It makes no external request and tracks nothing. It also doesn't claim to make the site compliant, it adjusts the page for you; the underlying markup is what does the real work.
Making everything bigger
The toolbar isn't the only way, and your browser's own zoom often works better because it enlarges everything at once and remembers the setting across every site you visit.
On most computers, hold Ctrl (or Cmd on a Mac) and press + to zoom in, or - to zoom out. On a phone or tablet, increase the text size in your device's display or accessibility settings. This site's layout is built to reflow rather than break, so text stays readable and nothing disappears off the side of the screen.
What this site works with
This site is built with standard HTML, and it's designed to work with current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on computers, tablets and phones. It should work with the screen readers and magnifiers built into Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.
It doesn't require JavaScript to read a page or submit a form. If scripts are blocked, the menus, the accessibility toolbar and the budget calculator won't work, but every page and every form still will.
We haven't formally tested every browser and assistive technology combination. If yours gives you trouble, please tell us which one it is, that's the most useful thing you can send us.
Where there's more to do
We'd rather be honest about this than claim full compliance:
- A full independent accessibility audit and formal assistive-technology testing haven't been carried out yet
- The Support at Home budget calculator is the most complex thing on the site. It's keyboard operable, but it asks a lot of the reader, and we'd particularly like to hear if it's hard to use
- The site is in English only. See below if you'd prefer another language
- We link out to government and advocacy websites. We don't control those, and we can't guarantee their accessibility
If something is hard to use
Please tell us. If a page is difficult to read, a form is hard to complete, or something doesn't work with the assistive technology you use, we want to know. It's a fault on our side, not yours.
Tell us what you were trying to do, which page you were on, and what device or software you were using. We'll acknowledge it and tell you what we can fix and when.

About this statement
This statement applies to bamboocare.com.au. It was last reviewed on 15 September 2026 and is based on our own evaluation of the site against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, carried out during development rather than by an independent auditor.
We'll update it when the site changes materially, and when an independent audit has been completed.
