What this covers
About clinical supports
Clinical supports are the health side of care at home: registered and enrolled nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and the other allied health disciplines. They are delivered in your home rather than in a clinic, and they work alongside your GP and specialists rather than replacing them.
This is the category that changes what is possible. A wound dressed properly at home is a hospital admission that does not happen. A falls-prevention program is a fracture avoided. Occupational therapy that gets the bathroom right is the difference between showering safely and not showering at all.
Under Support at Home, clinical supports carry no participant contribution. The Australian Government funds them in full, whatever your pension status, because the program is designed not to put a price on the care that keeps people out of hospital.

Managing a long-term condition
Regular nursing visits monitor a chronic condition and medications, with the GP kept informed. The frequency goes up when something changes and back down when it settles.
Staying on your feet
An occupational therapist assesses the home for hazards and recommends equipment, while a physiotherapist runs a strength and balance program. The equipment is funded separately through the AT-HM scheme.

Physiotherapy and occupational therapy are clinical supports, so the participant contribution is zero whatever your pension status.

About clinical supports
Under Support at Home the participant contribution for clinical supports is zero for everyone, regardless of pension status. The cost still comes out of your quarterly budget, so it uses funding, but you are not asked to pay a share of it.
You do not need a referral to talk to us. Funded clinical supports are arranged following an aged care assessment, and the services you can access are the ones listed in your support plan.
No. Clinical supports at home work alongside your existing medical team. Nursing staff liaise with your GP and specialists rather than taking over from them.
Equipment and home modifications are funded through the separate Assistive Technology and Home Modifications scheme, in tiers up to $15,000, so they do not come out of the budget you use for services.
